Review – Children’s Book Creator by The Home Boss

So I did a thing and bought the Children’s Book Creator by The Home Boss self -publishing course because I have been wanting to get into the children’s book market on Amazon KDP for a long time. However, I have always been intimidated to venture into this market because I didn’t have a clue how I would go about illustrating my children’s books.

Having 2 kids myself, I know how much young children love pictures, and even rely on them to keep their attention when having a book read to them, so I know how important it is to have good illustrations in a picture book.

As many of you already know, I started out on Amazon creating Kindle ebooks, then ventured into low-content and no-content paperback books, so in my opinion, creating a children’s picture book would be a good and logical next step.

I originally heard about The Children’s Book Creator by The Home Boss in one of my low-content Facebook groups, and it really caught my eye for one specific reason: it teaches you how to create a children’s picture book and illustrate it WITHOUT having to know how to draw or hire an illustrator.

This was a HUGE deal for me, and I immediately went on a search to find reviews on this course, but was only able to find a few really good, honest ones from people that sounded like they actually took the course.

I have found that, often, when I search for a course or product review, the person giving the review hasn’t actually taken the course or used the product themselves, and they are just parroting what others have said or repeating the course’s sales page in their own words.

So, after purchasing the course and taking it myself, I want to share with you exactly what you will find on the inside so you can make an educated decision on whether or not it will benefit you in your journey to becoming a children’s book creator.

It’s a bit of an investment, and I am not one to drop money easily on anything unless I know exactly what I am getting and what to expect out of it. However, my personal opinion is that this course is invaluable, and will show you things you would have never thought of on your own. So, for me, it was well worth it and then some.

I found it to be extremely unique and different than any other course I had ever taken or seen advertised on the topic.

The Major Differences Between The Children’s Book Creator and All Other Children’s Book Publishing Courses

Most courses that teach you how to write a children’s book show you how to find an illustrator and how to pitch your book to publishing companies.

However, the Children’s Book Creator is catered toward the self-publisher, and teaches you how to work with already made images to illustrate your book.

You Use Images You Find On The Web

That is single handedly what sold me. The fact that you can legally take ready made images and use them to illustrate your books opens a sea of opportunity to the non-artistic author like myself!

Like other children’s book publishing courses, it shows you how to plan out and structure your book by laying out the story board and plot. But unlike other courses, this course shows you how to come up with a children’s story line based off of already made commercially licensed images you find on sites like Creative Fabrica, Creative Market, Canva, Pixabay, and other stock photo sites.

As opposed to coming up with your book’s story line first and then trying to find suitable images, (which is not always easy) this course takes you through the process of how to find those images, and how to structure your story around them.

In other words, you find the images first, and then craft a story line around those images.

To give you a better idea of what you’ll be doing, I have taken images I found in my Canva Pro account, and pieced them together to create a character and some background scenery. (You don’t need a pro account, there are many images included in Canva’s free account, but even more in the pro)

Here are the images I found while doing a quick search using the following search terms “cartoon background“, “cartoon girl“, “cartoon boy“, “sun graphic“, and “birds graphics“

I pieced them all together to create this scene:

A possible story line for a book that contains this scene might be about learning and discovering different shapes. Max and his friends are excited because they are looking for circles, and found a tree filled with them!

Parents love to buy books for their kids that help them learn, even the most elementary of concepts like shapes. The Children’s Book Creator gives you a ton of different story line ideas just like this for educational children’s stories.

You Self-Publish Your Book On Amazon KDP

In this course, you will actually be watching over the shoulder of Nuria, the creator of the course, as she creates, illustrates, and self publishes the children’s book Monty’s Rainbow Road Adventure on Amazon KDP.

If you are not familiar with Amazon KDP, it is the platform that allows publishers and Indie Authors (like us!) alike to upload their ebooks for Kindle, and/or their paperback or hardcover manuscripts for POD. (Print on Demand) for free. Print on demand simply means your books only get printed as they are ordered. That means a lot less cost and headache for authors, as there is no risk of wasted print copies due to lack of sales.

Through 9 modules and lots of topics in each module, the course goes through:

  • Structuring your book
  • Coming up with your book’s topic
  • Building your story
  • Making your book’s interior in Canva
  • Choosing your title and descriptions
  • Choosing the right keywords so your book gets found
  • Creating your cover
  • Publishing your book on Amazon KDP
  • Promoting your book
  • Bonus modules that show you how to use a character to express different emotions
  • How to use A+ Content
  • Story starters and ideas

I was very pleasantly surprised at just how much information is covered. To see the exact modules and subtopics, click here, and scroll to the bottom of the page past the testimonials.

For Low-Content authors, this is the best and easiest way to scale your way into the children’s picture book marketplace. And for anyone else who has always dreamed of writing their very own children’s picture book and getting it published, this is a goldmine of information.
