Top 10 Tips for Writing A Great Christian Book
Number 1 – You must have a passion for what you are writing about and a heart for the people you are writing to.
Number 2 – Know your audience. You must know exactly who it is you are writing to. Knowing your genre and your sub genre are vital to being able to speak into your target audience’s life.
Number 3 – Find your own personal, unique writing voice. Don’t try to be someone you are not. Be you.
Number 4 – Be real. Be authentic. Don’t be fake. Don’t act like you have it all together when you don’t. Be vulnerable to the point that you are relatable to real humans.
Number 5 – Be sure your Christian theology is sound and the things you are writing about are accurate. Avoid mixing different ideas from different worldviews.
Number 6 – Utilize good Christian Beta Readers and Editors that are objective and that are not your family members.
Number 7 – Make an outline of your book before you start writing, and make your end goal a solution of some kind to your reader.
Number 8 – Aim small but powerful. Your first book doesn’t have to be a thousand words and 100 chapters. You can go bigger as your writing career takes off, but at first, just do something that is completable and attainable.
Number 9 – Avoid Christian “ese”. Don’t try to sound more spiritual than you actually are, people will see right through that. Avoid common blanket terms that Christians often use, as that will alienate your readers.
Number 10 – Avoid making God seem like He is a magic genie who can just solve all your problems with no effort on your part.
