Is It Better To Self Publish or Get A Publisher?

In the past, if you wrote a book and then wanted to get it published, you’d have to go through a traditional publishing house to accomplish that. It was then a crap shoot on whether or not they would take on publishing your book.

Whether or not you became a published author was left up to the deciding powers that be to determine if your book made the cut, or if you’d be stuck with an unpublished manuscript laying around.

Thankfully, now, we don’t have to rely on someone else’s assessment on your writing in order to get your work out there to your readers. Big companies like Amazon and Barnes Noble now allow you to upload your book and self publish on their platform. (There are probably others, but those are the two main ones that I know of.)

Of course, there are pros and cons to everything, and self publishing and traditional publishing are no exceptions. While self publishing gives you the freedom to publish your book whenever you want, traditional publishing usually is able to get your book to more readers faster.

There’s a trade off for both of them. Below are some great articles that will help you decide if you should go the self publishing route, or if it might make more sense to you to approach traditional publishers with your book. Let me know in the comments is you have any more resources to add to the list.
