Ok, so this is a total rant on Canva in this post, and you can bet that’s an affiliate link I just dropped, because Canva is the easiest, most satisfying way to create graphics ever, especially for an otherwise pain-in-the-butt task like trying to create interiors and covers for low content books with programs like Photoshop and Illustrator.
I have no shame in telling you just how much I love this program and recommend it to everyone, even my 10 year old son.
Don’t get me wrong, Photoshop and Illustrator are the bomb-diggity when it comes to graphics, and creating anything visually amazing. But that’s only true for people who actually know how to use them, and use them well.
If you are wanting to get into low content publishing, and the creation of your books is what is holding you back, you should seriously check out Canva. It’s free! I know I just told you I dropped an affiliate link up top, and that’s because there is an upgrade to free that gives you some extra features, but if you are just starting out, you will do amazing with just the free version. For awhile anyway. Until you start having some fun and realizing what all you can do!
Canva is the best ‘drag-n-drop’ site I’ve ever used. And might I add a successful ‘drag-n-drop’ site at that. I’ve seen some drag-n-drop disasters in my day. It’s a very cool program that works extremely well for beginners. It feels like you’re literally just picking up images and moving them with your hands. And there are a ton of images to choose from. It’s so extremely easy. And not at all cheesy. Ha! I didn’t even try that!
If you got here through Pinterest, the image you clicked on was made with Canva. I make all my pins for this site in Canva. One night I had so much fun with it, I made 20 pins in under an hour! ‘From-scratch’ pins too, not templates.
If you’re into self-publishing, you are probably no stranger to book cover design. Some people really have a hard time with this, it takes so long to learn complicated graphics programs, that by the time you’ve figured out to how to do what you want to do, you’ve burnt out.
I’ve made some pretty awesome book covers in Canva. Here is a link to my Etsy shop (shameless plug) where I sell Canva book cover templates (and hoping to churn out some interiors too other than this Mindfulness Journal template), Here are are a few pictures from my shop, just to show you how valuable this tool can be, especially if you are a low content publisher struggling to make book covers. (Click on the pic to see the listing)
Those are just a few examples of how you can use Canva to create book covers. If you are interested in working with Canva, and you are creating a book cover, picking up a Canva template is a great way to get started. Let someone else do the ground work, that way you can focus on all the bells and whistles. These aren’t the only options on Etsy for KDP book covers or book interiors, just do an Etsy search, there are a ton of great templates available!
So yea, those are my thoughts on Canva. Check it out for yourself here.
