Kathy Postlethwait
Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Kathy Postlethwait, a dedicated woman of God and the self-published author of two inspiring guided prayer journals. Kathy has drawn from her profound faith and personal experiences to create these valuable resources, designed to help others deepen their prayer lives and relationship with God. She has produced beautifully crafted prayer journals that have already made a significant impact in people’s prayer lives, and we are looking forward to hearing more about her journals and her journey self-publishing them. You can get her prayer journal for women here and for new believers here.
Kathy, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re excited to hear more about your background, the inspiration behind your prayer journals, and your experiences in bringing these wonderful books to life.
Can you start by telling us a bit about yourself and your background?
I’ve been in the freight business 26 years, married, no children.
What inspired you to create your first prayer journal?
One of my friends saw that I used a book to write my prayer requests and then used it to pray. They wanted one and also some of their friends wanted one so instead of making them by hand, we decided to create and publish it.
How has your faith influenced your decision to write and self-publish these journals?
Because I believe that prayer is paramount in a Christian’s life, I was eager to help others remember to pray and remember what to pray for. I thought that if the small group of friends was interested in it, then others would be too.
What was your experience like self-publishing on Amazon?
It was amazing. I had help from one of my dearest friends so we got to spend more time together than we would normally. It was win-win. (note from interviewer: she thought it was amazing too! 🙂)
What were some of the challenges you faced during the self-publishing process?
Understanding some of the program and what had to be done for Amazon to publish.
How did you handle the design, formatting, and overall production of the journals?
I had my friend help me.
Did you seek any outside help, such as editors or graphic designers, or did you manage everything on your own?
I had outside help.
What advice would you give to someone who is looking to self-publish their own work, particularly in the Christian genre?
Do it! Even though it is a lot of work, the reward is well worth it.
Can you describe the two prayer journals you’ve published?
The first one is a prayer journal with prompt pages (ideas on what to pray for) and you get 3 journals in one because our prayers are constantly changing or they get answered. The other one is for new Christians, so the prayer prompt pages are geared towards a new believer.
Who are these prayer journals intended for?
Women and new believers.
What can users expect to find inside these journals?
Prayer prompt pages, what to pray for, pictures and scripture.
How do you hope these prayer journals will impact the lives of those who use them?
They will begin to remember people in their prayers and can make it through praying without becoming so distracted.
What makes your prayer journals unique compared to others on the market?
The prayer prompts and the 3 in 1 journal.
Do you have plans to create more prayer journals or other types of faith-based publications?
At this time, I have no plans to create more journals.
What has been the most rewarding part of this journey for you?
Spending time with a dear friend and that others have gotten better at prayer.
Wrapping it up.
