I thought it would be helpful to you to create a resources page listing all the tools I have used to write, publish, and promote my books. This page will constantly be updated as my self publishing business grows and I discover more valuable author resources. For your own reference, I advise you bookmark this page and come back frequently.

Kindle Publisher’s Training

  • Kindling – A complete beginner to advanced education and on-going Kindle publishing training given by Geoff Shaw that consists of text, video, and audio that shows you step by step how to successfully write, publish, and promote both fiction and non fiction. It is a membership website that covers every single aspect of being a self published author on Amazon.

Whether you are a complete newbie to writing and publishing or an experienced author who already has a few books out there, this course meets you right where you are and walks you through the steps it takes to create a successful, worthwhile Kindle business. Amazon Publishing 

  • KDP Sign In – Kindle Direct Publishing sign in page that takes you to the area where you upload and manage your Kindle books.


Your Book Covers

  • Fiverr – This is where I recommend you get your preliminary cover done talked about in the third lesson of Kindle Bootcamp. There are a lot of very talented graphic designers that will create very attractive book covers for only $5. Depending on the quality of the design work, you may even choose to get your books’ final covers designed here.

Formatting Your Book For Kindle

  • Building Your Book For Kindle – This is a free resource put out by Kindle Direct Publishing that walks you step by step on how to format your books for Kindle.
  • How To Publish And Sell Your Article On Kindle - This book will show you how to format your books if they are more the length of a long article rather than a full book. It shows you how to make the most of your front matter and also how to let your readers know your book is short without turning them away.

Description Formatting

  • Better Book Tools – Included in the tool suite is the Amazon HTML Book Description tool that creates great looking Amazon HTML Kindle descriptions in seconds. The Better Book Description tool includes editors for both KDP and CreateSpace.If you’ve spent time studying Kindle publishing, then you’ve likely heard about how you can use “Amazon HTML” to improve your book descriptions to include headings, lists, italics and other formatting typically supported by HTML.

On Amazon Book Promotion 

  • KDP Select KDP Select is an On Amazon promotional tool where you can earn higher royalties when readers borrow your books in the Kindle Owners Lending Library, make your books free to readers worldwide for a limited audience, and reach new audiences through lending and free promotion.
  • Author Central – Create your author page, edit your book descriptions, get author support, add your author biography, photos, blog feeds, videos, create your own unique author URL, and more.
  • ListmaniasLists you can create on Amazon that include related products you find interesting and helpful. The purpose of a Listmania is to help other customers find products that meet their needs on Amazon. The key to using Listmanias to promote your books is to place your books at the very top of your lists, and include more popular books than yours below it. Listmanias show up for a variety of reasons, but one of the main reasons are because books that show up in the search results are on the lists.
  • So You’d Like To Guides –  Amazon created the ability for users to write the So You’d Like To Guide to help customers find topic specific information they may need to make better informed purchases on their products. Amazon wants you to recommend their products in your guide, so go ahead and recommend your books!

Off Amazon Book Promotion

  • Blogger – Free blogging platform if you don’t want to self host.
  • WordPress Free Blog – WordPress also has a free blogging platform if you choose not to self host.
  • Weebly – A website builder that has a free and a paid option if you’d like to self host.
  • Aweber – The most reliable email marketing autoresponder on the internet (IMO). Use this to place an opt in form on your author blog to capture the emails of readers. Build a list of subscribers to contact when you do a book launch or any other promotional measure for your books.
  • Hostgator – I use Hostgator for all my self hosted author blogs. They are very inexpensive, and most importantly, very reliable.  If you decide to sign up, you can get your first month for a penny (if you choose the Hatchling or the Baby plan) or $9.94 off if you choose the Business plan.   • Facebook Fan Page – Create a Facebook fanpage in your author name reach your target audience and  help brand yourself.
  • YouTube –  Register a YouTube Channel in your author name also to help brand yourself.
  • Twitter – Register a Twitter account in your author name to reach your target audience and brand yourself.
